Introduction
The project was for the construction of a new single storey Primary School, for 120 pupils and Nursery, within the grounds of the existing school and Angus.
The new building is a single storey framed structure utilizing curved cellular roof beams, steel column sections and masonry wall panels. The roof is split level, with glazing panels to allow light into the central corridor area. The existing school is due to be demolished once the new building is completed.
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) have been incorporated into the drainage system, which also includes a rainwater harvesting system.
Scope
Millard Consulting is working as part of a Design and Build team led by Stewart Milne Construction.
The benefit of this Design and Build Contract was that Stewart Milne Construction had put together an experienced team who had worked together on numerous other projects.
Some of the buildings components, such as the structural members, were left exposed where practical in order to allow the children to be taught about the building as part of their curriculum.
In addition to the school, there was also a nursery and community office constructed to create additional facilities for the community.
Millard Consulting also provided Planning Supervisor/CDM Coordinator services for this project.
