"Reliable, efficient, cost effective solutions"

Reliable, efficient, cost effective solutions to ground contamination issues are essential to ensure landowners and property developers can maximise returns on investment; whilst minimising risk and ongoing liability.

By combining specialist up-to-date remediation knowledge and reliable trusted contractors; alongside a full understanding of environmental requirements, ground conditions and a positive regulatory liaison; Millard Consulting is able to provide a turnkey ground engineering, soil and groundwater decontamination service.

Our underlying aspiration is to use best environmental practise to restore “brownfield” sites to an environmentally acceptable state, minimise commercial risk and legal liability, enhancing value, promoting development.

Case study

Lion Mills, Soham - Remediation

Lion Mills is situated to the southeast of Soham town centre, bordered to the east and south by the Soham Lode.  The site, which covers an area of 4.3 hectares, has a legacy of industrial history as a corn mill dating back to the 1600’s.  By the time corn production had come to an end, the site comprised several large mill buildings, warehouses, bulk storage and twelve 1000 tonne corn silos.

Millard Consulting is working with our client, Taylor Wimpey, to transform this Brownfield site into a new residential development providing 151 new homes comprising houses and apartment blocks.

Millard Consulting are providing project management and environmental consultancy services to facilitate the demolition of existing mill buildings (including the removal and disposal of asbestos containing materials), the investigation and identification of contaminated ground, completion of an environmental risk assessment and the preparation of a remediation strategy.  Subsequent approval of the remediation strategy by the Environment Agency and Environmental Health Officer resulted in validation of remediation works to ensure suitability of the site for the proposed development.

Case study

Franklands Drive, Addlestone

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on behalf of the Secretary of State granted planning permission for the development of 350 100% affordable houses at a site situated in Addlestone, Surrey.  The site, located close to Row Town, comprises approximately 23.6ha of open space, bisected by a former sand pit and a triangular shaped pond.

Millard Consulting is working with the site owner, Paragon Community Housing Group, to transform the site into the proposed residential development by providing guidance and advice through the planning process and construction stage of the project.

A significant aspect of the work Millard Consulting are providing includes environmental consultancy services to investigate and identify areas of contamination.  The triangular shaped pond was found to contain significantly elevated concentrations of solvent and hydrocarbon contamination in the surface water, silts and soils.  An investigation of the groundwater confirmed the presence of elevated hydrocarbon contamination and vapours.

An environmental risk assessment was prepared together with outline remedial options that were subsequently approved by the Local Planning Authority and their consultees.  The implementation of the remedial strategy for soils and groundwater and the validation of remediation works to ensure suitability of the site for the proposed development is proposed.
