Introduction
As part of the planning submission to redevlop the Imperial Machine Company site into residentail housing, a Phase I Environmental Risk Assessment was completed in line with guidance document PPS23: Planning and Pollution Control. A number of potential sources of contamination were identified including foul storage, an in filled gravel pit and a registered landfill located adjacent to the site.
Scope
Work comprised of the drilling of three boreholes, window sampling and the installation of trial pitting groundwater and gas monitoring wells.
A conceptual model and risk assessment identified high to very high risks to residential users and constructions from hotspots of highly elevated metal and polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination.
