Victoria Ingram
Graduate Environmental Consultant
I did an undergraduate degree in Meteorology at Reading University, followed by a gap year. I moved to Norwich to complete an MSc in Climate Change, at the world renowned Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. This is where I developed my love of all things environmental.
"the information I have picked up is so useful, coming from a non-engineering background"
Following this degree, I searched for a position that would allow me to use the knowledge and skills from my education to make a difference, however modest, to the planet.
I started my role in the Sustainability team as a Graduate Environmental Consultant in 2008.
My main role is to investigate renewable energy technology options for new housing developments, large and small. We assess a dwelling’s potential energy requirement and its associated carbon dioxide emissions. We offer advice on ways to reduce the need for energy in the first place, for example by improving the airtightness of a building. We also devise energy strategies for the whole site; whether this is meeting a planning authority requirement, or a Government set target in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Despite having worked for Millard Consulting for only a few months, I have already been given the opportunity to become an accredited energy assessor and have just completed my training. Working in a multidisciplinary office, I have been able to gain knowledge in all areas of Millard Consulting’s services; from structures to hydrology and infrastructure. It’s great to be able to liaise with other teams within the office on the same projects, and the information I have picked up is so useful, coming from a non-engineering background.
