Introduction
In September 2004 Barclays launched a partnership between the Football Foundation, Barclays, and Groundwork. The aim was to create community sports facilities around the country; investing £30m over a three year period. As a Flagship site the proposed facility attracted a capital grant of £600k and is expected to generate £45k revenue p.a.
With the majority of funding provided by Barclay’s, the clubs Football In The Community (FITC) team would run and maintain the centre. The facilities provided include a play area, open space grass and hard surface area, Multi-Use Games Area, Seven-a-side Football Pitch, and Changing Area / Pavilion.
Scope
Millard Consulting were appointed as Contract Administrator for the construction phase and worked on a number of aspects of the development prior to the start on site, including:
- Planning liaison
- Site and contamination investigation
- Unexploded bomb (UXB) ordnance survey
- Flood risk assessment
- Electromagnetic survey
- Traffic and transportation
- Highways and Access
- Arboricultural and lanscaping
- Drainage and structural design
- Third party negotiations
- Site services
- Planning supervisor
Construction work started in March 2006 and was scheduled to coordinate with other construction projects at the football ground. Co-ordination was significant element and needed the programme to be maintained. Millard Consulting also provided site supervision. The project was completed on 17th July 2006, on time and in budget.
